Sound Open Firmware is an open source audio DSP processing firmware started by Liam Girdwood at Intel that would like to be the "Linux" of audio DSP firmware.

This presentation tells the story how a one man skunk works project for Minnowboard turned into a multi product and multi vendor opensource project alongside the technical features that can give users the edge over traditional audio.

Liam will also share details and insights gained on taking traditionally closed firmware and hardware into the opensource world and how this could be applied to help create open source firmware for other subsystems.

The SDK will be introduced that can be containerized and use either opensource tools, proprietary tools or a mixture of both for compilation, debug, tracing, code signing and heterogeneous virtualization of both driver and firmware.
